TIA Welcomes Approval of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework

Arlington, Va. (July 12, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the approval of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework, which is expected to go into effect this August.

TIA CEO Scott Belcher issued the following statement:

“The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield framework strikes a thoughtful balance, offering solid privacy protections for Internet users while also facilitating a seamless and secure flow of online data-transfers that have become an essential component of Trans-Atlantic commerce. The new framework is essential to encouraging innovation and increasing trade, while addressing a source of ongoing uncertainty for U.S. companies conducting business in Europe. TIA commends the U.S. and EU government officials who worked so hard to forge this new agreement.”
