TR-48 Vehicular Telematics

Engineering Committee TR-48 is responsible for the development and maintenance of voluntary standards relating to vehicular telematics equipment and services.

Vehicular Telematics services have been drawing attentions from the auto industry, and transportation regulators and service providers for public safety reasons. Through their work on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), many global standard forums have been developing the capability to transmit road conditions, vital vehicle safety warnings and information to emergency responders immediately following an incident. The 5.9 GHz Dedicated Short Range Communications for Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (DSRC/WAVE) communications system has been chosen to be the primary radio for North America ITS emergency services, which is TR-48's primary area of focus for standards development.
