TIA Urges China to Refrain from Imposing Tariffs on U.S. Telecom Goods

Arlington, VA (August 3, 2018) –– In response to today’s announcement by China’s Ministry of Commerce to propose retaliatory tariffs on $60 billion worth of U.S. goods, the Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following statement:

“TIA urges the Chinese government to refrain from imposing the duties it proposed today on a wide variety of telecom products. TIA is concerned by the rapid escalation of tariff-related measures now under consideration by the Chinese and U.S. governments, both in the breadth of products covered and level of duties proposed. TIA considers tariffs to be an ineffective trade remedy that would harm consumers and businesses that rely on telecom networks as an essential everyday tool. TIA strongly encourages the United States and China to return to the negotiating table to head off this and other measures before they cause needless economic damage.”
