TIA Congratulates Robert Lighthizer on Confirmation as U.S. Trade Representative

Arlington, VA (May 11, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today congratulated Robert Lighthizer on his confirmation as United States Trade Representative (USTR).

Cinnamon Rogers, TIA Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, commented:

“Having served as both a long-time trade lawyer and former deputy USTR, Ambassador Lighthizer brings to the position extensive trade experience and a strong enforcement background. We appreciate that he has addressed the need to update trade agreements to support the growth of digital trade. He has also highlighted the importance of enabling free cross-border data flows, and voiced opposition to data localization measures. We believe he will serve as a forceful advocate in modernizing rules for the era of digital trade – an approach we consider essential for maintaining America’s leadership in innovation, creating new jobs and advancing the U.S. economy.”
