TIA Applauds Administration’s American Broadband Initiative Report

Arlington, VA (February 13, 2019) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement upon the release of the Administration’s American Broadband Initiative (ABI) report; which reflects the work of a multi-agency effort to remove barriers to broadband deployment.

TIA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Cinnamon Rogers, issued the following statement:

“Today’s report is great news for efforts to close the digital divide. As the report highlights, broadband deployment can be hindered by regulatory obstacles, would benefit from better access to federal facilities, and needs coordinated funding to maximize the use of federal dollars.

“The President’s American Broadband Initiative is an important step to make coordinated progress on these issues, and we appreciate the significant work that has already been done by several federal agencies over the past year.

“The report also sets expectations for the agencies to take further actions in the coming years, including some common-sense steps like creating a one-stop shop for broadband permitting and revising common application forms. TIA and its members look forward to that progress to help ensure that all Americans benefit from next-generation services as quickly as possible.”
