Arlington Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-41.9 Engineering Committee on Technical and Administrative Regulatory Considerations has issued a call for interest for document TIA-1096-B initially titled "Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment - Connector Requirements for Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone Network". TR-41.9 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope:
"This standard outlines test methods for determining compliance with the requirements for hard gold contacts. Additionally it outlines a test method for determining equivalency to hard gold plating performance for alternative contact materials."
The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: telecom, consumer, hearing impaired, accessibility, hearing loss

We hope that China will use this break in the negotiations to reexamine its approach to the negotiations to expand the ITA and focus on reducing its overly large list of sensitive products. If China is ready to move forward to conclude the expansion of the ITA this year then the ITA Expansion is achievable this year.

Last week was a busy one at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. The signs are very encouraging that the member countries of the WTO are back on track to move the WTO’s trade liberalization agenda forward – from the new International Services Agreement (ISA) to the ongoing negotiations to expand the existing WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA).
