TIA issues New Broadband Data Protocol Standards Standard
TSB-4973.000 Specifies Requirements for Broadband Data Protocol Standards for the public saftey community
Arlington, VA (May 08, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has released a new document, TSB-4973.000, Broadband Data Protocol Standards.
This initial standard in a multi-part series provides an overview of the structure of the TIA standards describing protocols for interoperable communications over wireless broadband systems. In 2011 the Emergency Response Interoperability Center identified a set of "Applications Important to Public Safety" for the 700 MHz National Public Safety Broadband Network. Specifically for Emergency Function, Global Positioning Information, CMAS-Public Warning, Incident Management Tools, Welcome Pages, Internet Access, Virtual Private Networking, Text Messaging, Video, File Transfer, Telemetry and Push-to-Talk Voice. The standards described herein provide standardized protocols for a subset of the recommended applications previously listed.
As this series of standards is being developed additional parts will be added. They are intended to address Systems and Supporting Data, Services and Applications and Compliance Assessment Recommendations.
TSB-4973.000 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards, TR-8.8 Broadband Data Systems
