TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Project 25 Tier 1 Location Services

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (August 28, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-8.5 Engineering Committee on Signaling and Data Transmission has issued a call for interest for document TIA-102.BAJB-A initially titled "Project 25 Tier 1 Location Services".

The Tier 1 Location Service standard provides a simple SU-to-SU interface for the Direct Data and Repeated Data configurations. This service is appropriate for real-time field incident applications where the Location Service Host is resident on a portable device. It utilizes a dedicated Service Access Point over the Common Air Interface to transport location information formatted as described in NMEA 0183, a commonly used location protocol.  In this application a mechanism to give location information to a host device on a fixed network nor more advanced configuration of triggering and reporting is not needed.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: APCO Project 25 members, Private Land Mobile Radio manufacturers and users.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
