TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for FOTP-122 Adopt IEC 60793-1-48: Measurement Methods and Test Procedures – Polarization Mode Dispersion

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (July 1, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-122-B initially titled "FOTP-122 Adopt IEC 60793-1-48: Measurement Methods and Test Procedures – Polarization Mode Dispersion".

TR-42.12 is adopting this part of IEC 60793 which applies three methods of measuring polarization mode dispersion (PMD), which are described in Clause 4 if the standard. It establishes uniform requirements for measuring the PMD of single-mode optical fibre, thereby assisting in the inspection of fibres and cables for commercial purposes.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Fiber and cable suppliers utilizing factory measurements as well as 3rd party measurement labs

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

To inquire about participating in TIA standards developing efforts, please contact the TIA Technology & Standards Department at 703-907-7700 or via e-mail at standards@tiaonline.org.
