TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for CMRS and TCC Provider Implementation Guidelines for the Joint ATIS/TIA SMS to 911 Standard

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (September 12, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-45.8 Engineering Committee on Core Networks - Mobile and Personal Communications Standards has issued a call for interest for document J-STD-110.01 initially titled "CMRS and TCC Provider Implementation Guidelines for the Joint ATIS/TIA SMS to 911 Standard".

TIA’s TR-45.8 and ATIS’s WTSC-SN committees are creating a joint standard for Commercial Mobile Radio Service (CMRS) and Text Control Center (TCC) providers that will address key implementation guidelines for areas such as:  TCC deployment and SMS to 911 operational support by CMRS and TCC providers which represent a portion of the interim SMS to 911 solution.  The guidelines standards will also identify field and supporting tests to verify deployment compliance with the SMS to 911 standards-based portion of the interim SMS to 911 solution.

The joint committee will be developing liaisons to assist with the education of public safety and the general public.  In addition, there will be a focus on the identification of the elements of deployment timelines and the coordination aspects needed with NENA, APCO, & others.

Cheryl Blum, Vice President of Technology and Business Development stated, “TIA is proud to help lead the industry towards further empowering life-saving links to emergency services when voice exchanges are not possible. By taking another important step forward and developing implementation guidelines for CMRS and TCC providers, the industry also makes strides towards a future next generation 911 network for all.”

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to wireless telecommunications operators and vendors.  TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
