TIA, as part of its ANSI-accreditation, is required by ANSI to submit data for new and existing projects which have been designated to become ANS, and for all Standards Proposals (SP) ballots. This information is announced in Standards Action.
This Standards Action Publication Schedule is determined by ANSI and is provided for reference so that chairs can estimate approximate close dates for Project Initiation Notification (PIN) announcements and for SP ballots. This schedule allows the committee to plan on approximate dates for comment resolution and publication.
Example using the 2004 schedule:
The PINS announcement is a pre-condition to the announcement of the SP ballot in Standards Action. The SP ballot will then appear in a subsequent edition of Standards Action.
Subsequent Example: (after the committee has spent a few months preparing draft)
What the above example means in terms of planning is that the absolute earliest that TIA could submit the document for approval to the ANSI Board of Standards Review (BSR) for approval would be 5/26/2004. The approval process at the BSR takes approximately 7-10 days. In this above example (assuming no unresolved negatives), the document would be published in mid-June.
The committee is encouraged to submit its project initiation notice forms as early on in the process as possible. Furthermore, the committee can proceed with comment resolution of the ballot but the ballot is not considered officially closed until the listed close date in the ANSI Standards Action.
