TIA Policy Committees, Divisions, and Working Groups - Your Ticket to Shaping Our Agenda

 
In an effort to better serve our members on policy-related matters, we continuously update our distribution lists to ensure that our member company representatives have a voice and receive information. Below are the Policy Committees and Divisions available to TIA members. The following will provide you with details about upcoming activities of TIA's Government Affairs Department, as well as information about how to stay informed of our activities and how to get directly involved.
 
  • Public Policy Committee (PPC) and International Committee (IC)
    • Chair: Mark Walker, Walker and Associates, Inc.
    • Primary policy group responsible for establishing and advocating TIA positions on domestic public policy issues and strategies that represent the consensus of the membership.

  • Standards and IPR Policy Committee (SIPC)
    • Chair: Amy Marasco, Microsoft
    • Advocates policies to U.S. and international governments on issues that impact standardization, including issues relating to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) within the standardization process.

Accessibility Working Group (AWG)

  • Chair: David Dougall, Research In Motion
  • Advocates public policy positions related to ensuring that persons with disabilities have access to communications products and services.

Broadband and Convergence Working Group (BCWG)

  • Chair: Gary Bolton, ADTRAN
  • Shapes public policy that affects the development, deployment, and utilization of a robust nationwide broadband infrastructure with the goal of achieving global competitiveness and to facilitate convergence of next-generation voice, data, and video applications, and other intermingled services offered over innovative devices.

Cybersecurity Working Group (CWG)

  • Advocates public policy positions related to the security of ICT equipment and services.

The Energy & Environment Working Group (EEWG)

  • Chair: Mark Sharp, Panasonic
  • Advocates public policy positions related to the role of ICT equipment and services in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in other more energy intensive sectors through “smart” technologies (smart grid, smart buildings, intelligent transportation, travel substitution) as well as issues related to the environmental footprint of the ICT sector (energy efficiency and environmental regulations).

  • Communications Research Division (CRD)

    • Advocates public policy positions related to supporting a robust U.S. research ecosystem including polices that promote federal and private funding for ICT research, immigration reform and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

  • Technical Regulatory Policy Committee (TRPC)
    • Chair: Chuck Eger, Motorola Mobility
    • Advocates public policy positions related to the streamlining clarifying the mechanisms of the FCC equipment certification processes and procedures through interaction with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), its Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) and its laboratory, and other governmental bodies, including but not limited to those issues which are affected by related TIA standardization activities.

    • Private Radio Section (PRS) Chair: Bob Speidel, Harris
    • Advocates public policy positions related to the needs and interests of manufacturers of two-way radio equipment, including but not limited to those issues which are affected by related TIA standardization activities. Within the division, the Private Radio Section (PRS) concentrates on commercial two-way radio systems utilized by the industrial, transportation and governmental sectors.
