Washington, D.C. – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which represents manufacturers of broadband equipment, products and services, hosted a Webinar to inform the information and communications technology (ICT) industry about the threat it faces by the FCC's proposal to reclassify broadband as a Title II service.
TIA's Webinar featured noted economist and former FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth, following a summary of the issue by Russell Hanser, Wilkinson, Barker & Knauer. TIA's free Webinar focused on educating the ICT industry on the potential effects of FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski's proposal. TIA Vice President for Government Affairs Danielle Coffey moderated.
An archived Webcast of the Webinar is available for viewing on demand at http://www.brighttalk.com/webcast/21172
"We're extremely concerned about what the reclassification of broadband would mean for TIA's member companies and the ICT industry," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "This would be a tectonic shift with potentially drastic effects, both long-term and near-term, especially as it comes on the heels of the worst recession in nearly a century. This Webinar was part of the steps we are taking to educate the public and the ICT industry – as well as the FCC – on the consequences of this action, which can still be avoided if overwhelming evidence compels the Commission to rethink its proposed course of action."
