FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 02, 2010
Arlington, Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, recently released TIA-102.AABF-B Link Control Word Formats and Messages, updating a Project 25 standard.
Project 25 – a suite of American National Standards and other documents developed by TIA – defines interoperable digital public safety radio communications equipment that can be used by first responders and homeland security/emergency response professionals.
TIA-102.AABF-B addresses an urgent need for technical information on the emerging digital techniques for Land Mobile Radio Service. The standard defines the formats and messages for Link Control Words for both conventional and trunked systems using the Project 25 FDMA Common Air Interface. Link Control Words are code words that encode 9 octets of information that may be embedded within voice messages or separated into voice terminators. These definitions are necessary to insure interoperability of radio units.
TIA-102.AABF-B was formulated under the cognizance of TIA Engineering Committee TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards TR-8.10 Subcommittee on Trunking and Conventional Control. The standard was developed with inputs from the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO)/TIA Project 25 Interface Committee (APIC), the APIC Trunking Task Group, the APIC Format Task Group, and the TIA industry members.
Project 25's steering committee comprises representatives from TIA, APCO, the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD), select federal agencies and the National Communications System (NCS). TIA TR-8 facilitates development of Project 25 voluntary standards, the TIA 102 series of technical documents, through its role as an ANSI-accredited standards developing organization.
