TIA Welcomes New FCC Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Baker

Leading Broadband Advocate Lauds Senate Confirmation of Exceptional Public Servants Who Bring Panel to Full Strength to Consider All-Important National Broadband Plan

Washington, D.C. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) applauds the U.S. Senate's confirmation of two new Federal Communications Commissioners: Meredith Baker and Mignon Clyburn.

"Commissioner Baker and Commissioner Clyburn both bring to the table distinctive backgrounds and impeccable public records, which is paramount as the FCC is preparing a mandated national broadband plan that will affect all Americans for generations to come," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "We look forward to working with them, along with Chairman Julius Genachowski, Commissioner Robert McDowell, and Commissioner Michael J. Copps as this all-important strategy is devised."

Meredith Baker is former head of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which is currently overseeing the administration of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) grants under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Mignon Clyburn will leave her current post as a South Carolina state utility regulator to assume the duties of FCC commissioner.

"We appreciate the FCC's consideration and stand ready as advocates on behalf of the information and communications technology (ICT) industry in the United States to provide industry perspective in an advisory role to further our national goals," said Seiffert.
