TIA Issues ISIM Application on UICC for cdma2000® Spread Spectrum Systems

Command Parameters, File Structures, Contents of Elementary Files, Security Functions and Application Protocol for Use in Interface Between Smart Card and Terminal Specified

Arlington, Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, recently released a new standard, TIA-1078 ISIM Application on UICC for cdma2000® Spread Spectrum System.

TIA-1078 defines the IP Multimedia Services Identity Module (ISIM) application. This application resides on the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), an Integrated Circuit (IC) card – or "smart" card.

For ISIM application for access to IMS services in cdma2000 systems, TIA-1078 specifies:

  • Specific command parameters
  • File structures
  • Contents of EFs (Elementary Files)
  • Security functions
  • Application protocol to be used on the interface between UICC (ISIM) and terminal

TIA-1078 addresses ISIM implementation on UICC only. This is to ensure interoperability between an ISIM and terminal independently of the respective manufacturer, card issuer or operator.

TIA-1078 does not define any aspects related to the administrative management phase of the ISIM. Any internal technical realization of either the ISIM or the terminal is only specified where these are reflected over the interface. This standard does not specify any of the security algorithms that may be used.

TIA-1081 was formulated under the cognizance of TIA Engineering Committee TR-45 Mobile & Personal Communications Systems, TR-45.5 Subcommittee on Spread Spectrum Digital Technology.
