TIA Issues UICC-Terminal Interface Characteristics for cdma2000® Spread Spectrum Systems
TIA-1058 Defines a Generic Terminal/Integrated Circuit Card Interface to Ensure Interoperability Regardless of Manufacturer, Smart Card Issuer or Operator
Arlington, Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, recently released a new standard: TIA-1058 UICC-Terminal Interface Physical and Logical Characteristics for cdma2000® Spread Spectrum Systems.
TIA-1058 specifies the interface between the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), and the terminal for cdma2000 network operation, including:
- The requirements for the physical characteristics of the UICC
- The electrical interface between the UICC and the terminal
- The initial communication establishment and the transport protocols
- The model which serves as a basis for the logical structure of the UICC
- The communication commands and the procedures
- The application-independent files and protocols
TIA-1058 defines a generic terminal/Integrated Circuit Card (ICC) interface for cdma2000 applications. The standard is based on ETSI TS 102 221, Smart Cards; UICC-Terminal Interface; Physical and Logical Characteristics (Release 6), which defines a generic platform for any IC card application and lists requirements that are common to all cdma2000 smart card-based applications.
The aim of TIA-1058 is to ensure interoperability between an ICC and a terminal independently of the respective manufacturer, card issuer or operator. The administrative procedures and initial card management are not included in TIA-1058. Any internal technical realization of either the ICC or the terminal is only specified where these are reflected over the interface.
TIA-1058 was formulated under the cognizance of TIA Engineering Committee TR-45 Mobile & Personal Communications Systems, TR-45.5 Subcommittee on Spread Spectrum Digital Technology.
