FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 12, 2008
Arlington, Va. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industries, has published TIA-329.2-C, Minimum Standards for Communications Antennas, Vehicular Antennas.
TIA-329.2-C specifies methodology to test the ability of digital two-way radio antenna systems to handle the real-time communications requirements of federal, state and local public safety agencies, utilities, railroads, and other organizations. This standard covers only vehicular antennas using the terrestrial land mobile bands between 25 MHz and 1000 MHz with trucks, motorcycles and passenger cars. It does not cover antennas used in military combat.
The testing frequency range for antenna systems using the terrestrial land mobile bands is expanded to include the 220 MHz band, lowering the 450 MHz band from a low of 400 MHz to 380 MHz, and lowering the 800/900 MHz band to 740 MHz. Testing standards include parameters for durability and operating conditions, such as signal strength and range, volume and audibility, weather and site conditions, shock and vibration stability, and resistance to varying weather conditions.
TIA-329.2-C was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8: Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards Engineering Committee’s TR-8.11: Subcommittee on Antenna Systems.
