Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Updates Public Safety Link Control Standard

New Addendum Enhances Word Formats and Messages for ISSI Supplementary Data

Arlington, Va. - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industries, has published TIA-102.AABF -A-3, Project 25 - Identity Extensions to Link Control - Word Formats - Addendum 3. The new standard was developed in collaboration with prominent public safety organizations under the Project 25.

TIA-102.AABF-A-3, an addendum to TIA-102.AABF-A - Link Control Word Formats and Messages, defines link control word message changes required to support the Supplementary Data feature in the Inter Sub-System Interface (ISSI) for Project 25 digital trunked radio systems. These enhancements provide for extended identification of the source of a call, status update, message update or call alert in cases where implicit identifications of the source is insufficient.

Project 25 is an interoperability suite of standards for digital two-way wireless communications products and systems. TIA, in collaboration with prominent public safety organizations, generates standards, interim standards, specifications and telecommunications systems bulletins that define the equipment and processes necessary for implementation of digital public safety radio communications under the APCO/NASTD/FED Project 25 standard.

APCO/NASTD/FED is composed of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO); the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD); and Federal Government Agencies (FED).

TIA-102.AABF-A-3 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8: Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards Engineering Committee’s TR-8.10: Trunking and Conventional Control Subcommittee.
