TIA AND ATIS' JOINT CALEA STANDARD PUBLISHED AS AN AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD

Arlington, Va. - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) have published a revision to their joint standard, Enhanced Wireless 9-1-1 Phase II, ANSI/J-STD-036-B.

The document was originally published as an industry standard, J-STD-036-A, in 2002. It is intended that this American National Standard (ANS) will supersede the prior industry standard J-STD-025-B.

The purpose of this standard is to define the messaging required to support information transfer to identify and locate wireless emergency services callers. The standard provides a solution for the handling of Wireless Enhanced Emergency Calls for the FCC E911 Phase II mandate.

Carrier position reporting to emergency services systems, as mandated by the Federal Communications Commission has been addressed by this Interim Standard without considering position report privacy restrictions that may be desirable for other position reporting services. For this reason, this Standard does not preclude these other service restrictions. Position reporting privacy restrictions are beyond the scope of this Standard and are therefore not addressed by the Standard.

ANSI/J-STD-036-B was created by TIA TR-45 Committee on Mobile and personal Communications Systems and ATIS' Wireless Technologies and Systems Committee. To obtain copies of the document, contact Global Engineering Documents at http://global.ihs.com or order via the ATIS Document Center at https://www.atis.org/docstore/product.aspx?id=11445.
