TIA Hails President Obama's Commitment to Nearly Double Available Spectrum for Mobile Communications

Washington, D.C. – In response to President Obama's commitment to auction 500 MegaHertz of commercial and federal spectrum, Grant Seiffert, President of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), which represents manufacturers of mobile equipment, products and services, has issued the following statement:

"TIA applauds President Obama for recognizing the urgent need to make large bands of spectrum available for mobile communications devices. This decision will create hundreds of thousands of jobs for Americans while improving U.S. technological competitiveness. The spectrum will enable the mobile industry to meet the demand for high-speed wireless applications, and will help drive the U.S. economy, both near-term and long-term. We are also grateful that proceeds from the spectrum auctions will be used to fund public safety networks and infrastructure, both of which are greatly in need of investment. At TIA, we look forward to working with the U.S. government in an advisory capacity to ensure that these funds provide the greatest impact possible for the future of U.S. mobile communications."
