TIA Supports FCC Efforts to Restructure USF, ICC Programs

'Proposed Actions Are a Significant Pro-Jobs Initiative,' Says TIA President Seiffert

Washington, D.C. – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), which represents the manufacturers and suppliers of global communications networks, today applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), supporting its efforts to restructure the Universal Service Fund (USF) and Intercarrier Compensation (ICC) programs.

"The FCC's proposed actions are a significant pro-jobs initiative," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "We know from a TIA commissioned report, The Contributions of Information and Communication Technologies to American Growth, Productivity, Jobs and Prosperity, that information and communications technology (ICT) companies already account for 3.5 million jobs and $1 trillion to U.S. GDP. The FCC's actions will encourage even more ICT-driven jobs growth."

"USF and ICC reform encourages not just jobs tied to the physical deployment of the infrastructure, but will produce added manufacturing jobs for ICT equipment and indirect employment and economic growth through the creation of new businesses, services, and technologies empowered with greater broadband access in energy, health care, education, and other sectors," Seiffert said.
