TIA Submits Comments to GSA on Improving Cybersecurity and Resilience in Federal Acquisitions
In Comments Filed Today, TIA Outlines Priorities Including Ensuring Flexibility for Government Vendors, Necessity of International Approaches, and Role of Federal Workforce Training
Arlington, VA (April 28, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today submitted comments to the General Services Administration (GSA) on the implementation of the Final Report of the Joint Working Group on Improving Cybersecurity and Resilience through Acquisition.
In its comments, TIA made six recommendations to improve cybersecurity and resilience in federal acquisitions in accordance with Section 8(e) of Executive Order 13636. Among other priorities discussed in the filing, TIA urged for implementers of the Report to:
(1) Ensure flexibility and the ability to innovate for the information and communications technology vendor community that supports countless Federal systems;
(2) Recognize the necessity of international approaches and standards to improving cybersecurity resiliency, and;
(3) Emphasize the role of Federal workforce training in addition to the efforts of industry in education efforts that are key to improving cybersecurity resiliency through the Federal acquisition process.
