TIA Submits Comments to FCC in Support of CVAA Communications Accessibility Requirements
Arlington, VA (July 16, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, submitted comments to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to inform its second Congressionally-mandated Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA) biennial report.
The FCC sought comment on the level of compliance for the CVAA’s communications accessibility obligations, the effect of related recordkeeping and enforcement requirements, and the extent to which accessibility barriers still exist to new communications technologies.
“TIA supported the passage of the CVAA and commends the Commission for initiating this proceeding to continue to learn how it can help further ensure that all Americans have access to advanced communications services and products,” TIA stated in its comments. “TIA generally believes that the CVAA’s requirements have resulted in increased accessibility across ICT products and services, and will continue to do so.”
TIA also noted its belief that the FCC can, by ensuring that it uses a flexible approach moving forward, increase the availability of ACS products and services to disabled populations. Moving forward, TIA looks forward to continuing to partner with the FCC to enhance ICT accessibility for consumers.
