TIA Releases Statements on Pritzker and Froman Nominations
ARLINGTON, VA (May 2, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today commented on the nomination of Penny Pritzker as Secretary of Commerce and the nomination of Michael Froman as U.S. Trade Representative. Grant Seiffert, president of TIA, issued the following statements:
“TIA welcomes the announcement today of the nomination of Penny Pritzker for the position of Secretary of Commerce. Her background in the private sector and proven entrepreneurial spirit will make Ms. Pritzker a great addition to the Department of Commerce and its continuing goal of creating jobs and enhancing U.S. exports to markets around the world.”
“TIA welcomes the nomination of Michael Froman as the next U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). The choice of Mr. Froman sends a strong signal to the business community that the Administration’s trade agenda remains a top priority. From the recently announced U.S.-EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership to the active negotiations to conclude this year the Trans-Pacific Partnership and expansion of the WTO Information Technology Agreement, Mr. Froman is uniquely equipped to take on the role of USTR with his deep trade policy background as the Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs in the White House.”

Last week was a busy one at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. The signs are very encouraging that the member countries of the WTO are back on track to move the WTO’s trade liberalization agenda forward – from the new International Services Agreement (ISA) to the ongoing negotiations to expand the existing WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA).
