TIA Applauds Nomination of Tom Wheeler as FCC Chair
ARLINGTON, VA (May 1, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today commented on the imminent nomination of Tom Wheeler to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Grant Seiffert, president of TIA, issued the following statement:
“TIA applauds the pending nomination of Tom Wheeler to chair the FCC. He has the proven ability to transcend a broad range of industry perspectives to reach balanced outcomes. Given that one of the most important challenges facing the FCC will be assuring a successful television spectrum incentive auction, Wheeler's breadth of experience makes him especially well-suited to lead the FCC at this time.
“Commissioner Clyburn will provide valued continuity to the FCC during the nomination process as the most senior commissioner and as the interim Chairman. Since her appointment in 2009, she has been a key contributor to a very productive period at the Commission.”

Last week was a busy one at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. The signs are very encouraging that the member countries of the WTO are back on track to move the WTO’s trade liberalization agenda forward – from the new International Services Agreement (ISA) to the ongoing negotiations to expand the existing WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA).
