APEC Telecommunications Working Group

TIA is an active participant in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Telecommunications Working Group (APEC TEL). APEC TEL had its origins at the Senior Officials Meeting in 1990.

The work of the APEC TEL is accomplished by four steering groups, which propose, implement and monitor projects and activities to advance the overall goals of APEC. Each addresses a specific priority area: Liberalization, Business Facilitation, Development Cooperation and Human Resource Development.

APEC was formed in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. Since then, APEC has become the primary regional vehicle for promoting open trade and practical economic cooperation. Its goal is to advance Asia-Pacific economic dynamism and sense of community.

APEC economies include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, the Russian Federaion, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
