Hyperscale Data Centers: Re-architecting for Bandwidth and Speed
Creating what is known as a Hyperscale Data Center, which is defined by Gartner as a single location housing over 50,000 servers, relies on a confluence of hardware and software systems rearchitected to streamline the flow of data while continually reducing latency in and minimizing power costs. Hardware, including server sizes and components, fiber trunks, connectors, switches, are continually being redeveloped for optimization. As repositories of valuable and sensitive information, security of data centers is one of the most important operational areas of concern. The physical plant itself needs protection from intrusion and attack. As cyber physical systems, data centers are vulnerable from both external hacks, such as shutting off of electricity, and internal data cyber attacks, among others. The Growing Role of SDN in Data Center Operations
