FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 24, 2008
Washington, D.C. - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industries, has published TIA Standard 102.BAAD-1, Common Air Interface Description for Conventional Channels, Addendum 1 - Packet Data Registration/OTAR Messages and Procedures.
Federal, state and local public safety agencies, utilities, railroads, manufacturers, and a wide variety of other businesses rely on the conventional channels of private land mobile radio systems, i.e., two-way radio, every day. To ensure communication is reliable and secure when using emerging digital technology, TIA-102.BAAD-1 defines additional packet data standards for two-way radio systems, including Packet Data Registration, Packet Data Scan Mode, and Packet Data Encryption Support features, including changing encryption by Over-the-Air-Re-keying (OTAR).
TIA-102.BAAD-1 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8.15: Common Air Interface (CAI) subcommittee, with input from the APCO Project 25 Interface Committee (APIC), APIC Data Task Group, and TIA members.
P25 is an interoperability suite of standards for digital two-way wireless communications products and systems. TIA, in collaboration with prominent public safety organizations, generates standards, specifications and telecommunications systems bulletins that define the equipment and processes necessary for implementation of digital public safety radio communications under the APCO/NASTD/FED Project 25 standard. APCO/NASTD/FED is composed of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO); the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD); and Federal Government Agencies (FED).
