Arlington, Va. - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) applauds the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee's overwhelming support for the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which it moved to the House floor by a vote of 39-0 today. The FTA, H.R. 3688, was fast-tracked through Congress and would implement an FTA, first signed in April 2006 and revised this past May, that greatly reduces unfair impediments to entering the Peru market. TIA has long advocated quick approval of the Peru FTA, as well the other three U.S. FTAs, with Panama, Colombia and South Korea, currently before Congress.
"Ways and Means has shown a real grasp of how beneficial free trade is to the U.S. high tech industry, and we hope the full House takes up this bill as soon as possible," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "The benefits of these FTAs to TIA's members and the U.S. economy are clear."
